I am obsessed with the movie The Greatest Showman. I like musicals in general but I fell instantly in love with this movie from the opening scene. The colours of the costumes…the toe-tapping music…the roller-coaster of emotions…the positive message…all wrapped into one of the most vibrant movies I have seen in a long time.

Sitting in the dark theatre, my hands slick with buttery goodness, connected with strangers watching this magical story unfold on the 20-foot screen, I realized my theme for the year.

2018 will be my year of vibrancy.

You see every year I pick a word or phrase to focus on. A mantra of sorts. Last year was execute and the year before was owning it. But this would be the year of vibrancy.

After a year which seemed very dull, boring and unstimulating, vibrancy seems like a good choice. This is a year to regain some of that joy de vivre which seems to be missing of late.

Just say the word aloud. Vibrancy. It just resonates don’t you think?

According to the Oxford Dictionary vibrancy is the state if being full and of energy and life, the striking brightness of colour or the strength and resonance of sound. I am saying yes to all of it.

I am going to make a conscious effort to enjoy everything with a little more flourish. How? By lighting more candles, wearing my brighter clothes more, listening to my favourite music until my kids tell me to turn it down, appreciating the smell of food, smiling more, bouncing into a room, revelling in the colours of nature, dancing when people are looking, and just embracing all emotions with the fullness they are intended to be felt.

As the lyrics of one of my favourite songs from the movie say:

Come alive, come alive
Go and ride your light
Let it burn so bright
Reaching up
To the sky
And it’s open wide
You’re electrified

Yes…I think this will be a good year.
